This is probably one of the most well known fantasy books/films around (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
I must admit I did enjoy the films, but to me personally I prefer the books a lot better. THere is a lot of depth in Lord of the Rings that I feel cannot be portrayed in a film, and a lot of imagery that I gained in my head from reading the books, which wasn't portrayed in the film - the film didn't portray the story as I would have done.
But, what are your thoughts? Would you like to have seen anything done differently? Who's your favourite character and why?

I think both of them are excellent for what they've done. It miffs me off when people claim about the film missing out parts, etc, when they don't know the limits of film making. The film was gorgeous, and is my favourite, and is more than a good enough adaption for the book. The book... well, there are no words for it, are there? My favourite character was definitely either Boromir or Faramir. Boromir's character is extremely interesting, with his character succumbing to the ring. I know his character gets a lot of grief, which I think is wrong, since it isn't exactly his fault that his hopes for restoring Gondor get twisted by the ring... Faramir is just lovely. <3 His relationship with Denethor, and how he was forever second rate to his brother is just heart wrenching. Anyways, that's my piece. ^_-

I'm more of a person for Aragorn. Not only because of well his mystery, I just find his character intriguing. How he could resist the rings charms, when Isildur couldn't and Boromir couldn't. What makes him different to them? Is it because of his experience with the world as a whole, or something different?
Can I also add that I know quite a few of the limitations when it comes to making fantasy based films, having worked in Lightwave and done some amateur filming I know its hard.
